Prepainted galvanized steel sheet is made of electro-galvanized and hot-dip galvanized steel as substrates. After pretreatment (degreasing and chemical treatment), one or more layers of coatings are continuously applied to the surface of the base metal by coil coating and then baked. It includes base metal (cold rolled steel), zinc coating, chemical conversion coating, primer coating, and top coating.
PPGI Steel Structure
Top Paint: The top paint can form a dense film to reduce water permeability and oxygen permeability. The topcoat is able to block sunlight and prevent ultraviolet rays from damaging the coating;
Primer Paint: The primer often uses PE paint, which has better adhesion. So the top paint is not easy to desorb after water penetration to improve its corrosion resistance.
Zinc Coating: The zinc coating has a great influence on the service life of PPGI steel. The thicker the zinc coating, the better the corrosion resistance.
Substrate: Generally, it is a cold-rolled sheet with different strengths, which determines the mechanical properties of the color-coated sheet.
Back Paint: It aims to prevent the steel from corroding from the inside. If bonding is required on the back side, a single-layer back paint is recommended.
The coatings used include polyester (PE), silicon-modified polyester (SMP), high-durability polyester (HDP), polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), etc. They are widely used in construction, transportation, home appliances, solar energy, and furniture. and other industries. Prepainted steel for home appliances is mainly used as the side panels of refrigerators, DVD casings, air conditioners, freezers, and washing machine casings.
